Dan Hanson is Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. and the company’s asset manager, Ivy Investment Management Company. He is responsible for leading the company’s investment management division.
Mr. Hanson joined the company in June 2019 and has more than 25 years of investment and leadership experience. Prior to joining the company, he served as Portfolio Manager and Managing Director, Office of the CIO with BlackRock from 2003 to 2013, as Partner, Head of U.S. Equities and Co-Chair of the Investment Strategy Committee for Jarislowsky Fraser Global Investment Management from 2013 to 2018 and most recently as Head of Impact Investing for JANA Partners LLC.
Mr. Hanson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and French from Middlebury College, and earned an MBA, Accounting and Analytic Finance, from The University of Chicago. He is a CFA charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute.
Gil Scott, CFA Global Director of Equity and Fixed Income Research View Full Bio
Gil Scott oversees all research analysts covering sectors across the global equity and fixed income landscape. He was appointed Director of Research in 2016.
Mr. Scott joined the organization in 1997 as an equity investment analyst. He was named assistant portfolio manager to the Small Cap team in 2000, assisting in the management of three mutual funds and institutional accounts. He was appointed assistant vice president in 2000 and vice president in 2001.
Mr. Scott was portfolio manager of Ivy Small Cap Growth Fund and Waddell & Reed Advisors Small Cap Fund from 2003 to 2010, and of Ivy VIP Small Cap Growth from 2003 to 2006. He was lead portfolio manager of small cap growth institutional accounts from 2010 to 2016. He was appointed senior vice president in 2004.
Mr. Scott graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1989 with a BBA in Finance. He earned an MBA from the University of Texas in 1995. Prior to joining Waddell & Reed, Mr. Scott was affiliated with Hallmark Cards as a project manager in Strategy/Marketing Finance.
Mr. Scott is a CFA charterholder. He is a member of the CFA Institute. He is a member and past president of the CFA Society Kansas City. He is an advisory member to the MBA Investment Fund at the University of Texas in Austin.
Mark Beischel, CFA
Global Director of Fixed Income View Full Bio
Mark Beischel is portfolio manager of Ivy Global Bond Fund and Ivy VIP Global Bond. He has been a portfolio manager of Ivy Global Bond since 2008 and of Ivy VIP Global Bond since 2010. He had been a portfolio manager of the former Waddell & Reed Advisors Global Bond Fund since 2002. He has held oversight of allocation levels and management of all allocation sleeves for Ivy Apollo Strategic Income Fund and co-oversight of allocation levels and management of all allocation sleeves for Ivy Apollo Multi-Asset Income Fund since 2015.
Mr. Beischel has also served as co-portfolio manager of Ivy Corporate Bond Fund, Ivy Government Securities Fund, Ivy Crossover Credit Fund, Ivy Balanced Fund, Ivy VIP Corporate Bond and Ivy VIP Balanced since April 2018.
Mr. Beischel joined the organization in 1998 specializing in taxable investment-grade corporate credit analysis and emerging market credit analysis. He was appointed assistant vice president and named an assistant portfolio manager in 2000. He was appointed vice president in 2002 and senior vice president in 2006. Mr. Beischel was appointed Global Director of Fixed Income in 2011.
Mr. Beischel graduated in 1991 with a BBA in Management from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He earned an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Denver in 1993.
Mr. Beischel is a CFA charterholder. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Kansas City.
Derek Hamilton Global Economist View Full Bio
Derek Hamilton joined the organization in 1996 as an economic analyst. He assumed international analyst responsibilities in 2000, specializing in foreign currencies and international economics. He was appointed assistant vice president and international economist in 2007 and appointed vice president and global economist in 2010. He was appointed senior vice president in 2015.
Mr. Hamilton graduated from Rockhurst College in 1996 with a BSBA in Finance/Economics. He earned an MBA in Finance/Management from Rockhurst College in 1999.
Mr. Hamilton is a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of Kansas City and the National Association for Business Economics (NABE).
